The world’s most expensive cars are exclusive to the rich and famous but that doesn’t stop us from admiring the top 10 most expensive cars, examples of incredible pieces of engineering that can make us all dream. Due to their high price tags, they are of course made in limited numbers, only to be snapped up by collectors and rich folk.

1. Aston Martin One-77 – $1.80 million






Only 77 were made, giving this Aston Martin its name, and it starts the list at a cool $1.80 million. The naturally aspirated 7.3 litre V12 engine provides 750 hp, a top speed of 220 mph and a 0 to 60mph acceleration of 3.4 seconds. It features a full carbon fibre monocoque chassis and a handcrafted aluminium body. 

9. Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster – $1.85 million






Only 10 (5 being coupe versions) of the Cinque Roadster were ever made. It is the run-out version of the Zonda which ended its 10 year production run. The 7.3-liter V12 engine produces 678 hp, offers the same 0 to 60mph acceleration as the Aston but a 230 mph top speed.

8. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport – $2 million





Only 150 were made, with 50 being exclusively kept for registered Bugatti customers. Breaching the $2 million mark, the monstrous 8-liter engine of the Grand Sport gives a 0 to 60 mph acceleration of 2.45 seconds and averaged a whopping 253.8 mph in top speed tests.

7. Lamborghini Sesto Elemento – $2.2 million






The name means “Sixth Element” and relates to Carbon’s atomic number in recognition of the extensive use of carbon fiber. Only 20 were made and they all feature a 5.2 liter V10 engine which produces 570hp, offering a 0 to 60mph acceleration of 2.5 seconds. 

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – $2.5 million






The Veyron is back on the list with the $2.5 million Super Sport version that started production of the 30 units in 2010. It holds the title of most expensive production car in the world. There was also 5 World Record Edition units produced with orange body detailing and a special, black, exposed, carbon, body. This time round, the 8-liter engine produces a top speed of 267.86 mph and can accelerate to 200 mph in just 13.7 seconds. 

5. Lykan HyperrSport – $3.4 million






The Lykan Hypersport is built by Lebanon based W motors which was founded in 2012 – it is the first supercar produced in the Middle East. Only 7 were made and its 740 hp produces a top speed 267 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds. 

4. Lamborghini Egoista – $3.9 million






Yes, that is a car and not a spaceship. Only one was ever made and it was in celebration of Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary. Although it will be kept on display at the company’s museum, it was valued at $3.9 million. The 5.2-litre V10 engine produces 600 hp. The name literally means “selfish” and according to the model’s designer, Walter de Silva, the Egoista “represents hedonism taken to the extreme.” The one-seater is made of carbon fibre, aluminium and aeronautical-spec anti-radar material. 

3. Lamborghini Veneno




At $4.5 million it is ranked as the most expensive car to come out of 2014. It features a 750 hp engine and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The top speed is 22 mph. 

2. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita – $4.8million






Only 2 CCXR Trevita versions of the CCX were made and the $4.8 million mid-engined sports car can reach a top speed of 249 mph, with an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds. The 4.7 L twin supercharged V8 engine is capable of producing 795 hp. 

1. Maybach Exelero – $8 million







Dominating the list is the $8 million Maybach Exelero. The only one ever made is currently in the hands of Dr. André Action Diakité Jackson who is a diamond manufacturer and is widely known for collecting luxurious cars such as Bugatti, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and this car. The 700 hp four-seater packs a V12 engine, can hit 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 218 mph. It was also featured in Jay-Z’s music video for “Lost One”
