TopCar's Stinger GTR is a Beastly Porsche 911 Turbo S

TopCar's Stinger GTR is a Beastly Porsche 911 Turbo S

June 28, 2015 at 10:02 pm |

Believe it or not, making exterior modifications to a Porsche 911 is extremely difficult. If you're not careful, you end up with something that no longer looks iconic.

This is why so many 911 exterior kits aren't made up of too many new parts. You can do something to the spoilers, the wing, the wheels, a few other bits and you're finished. Any more than that and Porsche purists are going to look at your funny.

However, TopCar found a way to make this 911 Turbo S look a lot more aggressive without ruining its original appearance. This car is called the Stinger GTR and it features new front & rear bumpers, side skirts, new bonnet, and modified air intakes and scoops.

We don't care what you're driving. Heck, you could be driving the Novitec Torado or the Mansory Carbonado and odds are you're still going to admire this 911 for how menacing it looks.

As for the wheels, they are simply spectacular. We're talking about a set of ADV5 MV2 SL wheels, measuring 21x9 in the front and 21x11.5 at the rear.

Overall, this is by far one of the best looking if not the best looking custom Porsche 911 you'll find. It even looks more aggressive than the Techart version - and that is one seriously mean 911 Aero Kit!

One particularly cool touch is the fact that it says "STINGER" on the back. That lets you know that somebody went through the trouble of creating a whole new identify for it and didn't just glue on a few custom bits from some random tuning company.

The Stinger GTR kit will cost you €34,800 but that doesn't include all the optional extras such as the installation, paint, logos, exhaust tips and so on. In terms of performance, you get an extra 60 HP and 130 Nm (95 lb-ft) of peak torque - which should definitely help the car with its mid-range pulling power, not to mention with hitting the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) mark in under 3 seconds.

Bmw shows off new solar charging station for your car.

June 24th, 2015 by

BMW have just unveiled the curtain on their new Solar Carport concept – a solar charging station for your electric car. It was showed off as part of the media launch of the BMW i8 in Los Angeles, a plug in hybrid sports car being readied for the market.

The concept is quite simple; an open style garage to park your car underneath with solar panels on the roof. With the first deliveries of the BMW i3 underway, it’s clear to see that BMW is making a stance for its green credentials. This can be seen further more in the details of the Solar Carport concept which comes from the BMW Group DesignworksUSA in California. The upright supports are made from bamboo which with its quick growing nature is considered a rather sustainable resource.  The rest of the frame is composed of carbon fibre parts, sticking with the same theme as the new i3 and i8 vehicles.
Tom Allemann, of BMW Designworks USA explains, “With the solar carport concept we opted for a holistic approach: not only is the vehicle itself sustainable,” he said, “but so is its energy supply.”

The Solar Carport is set to work alongside the BMW i Wallbox Pro that charges much quicker than the charging cable provided as standard, offering a charge to 80% in less than two hours. Not only that, any surpluss energy produced from the solar panels can be diverted to power the owner’s home if the car becomes fully charged.  Although unless you live in a consistently sunny country, we expect you’ll be plugging the car into your home’s supply anyway.
“This is therefore an entirely new generation of carports that allows energy to be produced in a simple and transparent way,” Allemann continued. “It renders the overarching theme of lightweight design both visible and palpable.”
A fully charged high-voltage battery running the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car has a range of about 22 miles in all-electric mode, according to BMW. But then again, it is a hybrid and not designed to run on electricity alone. Unlike the Tesla Model S which offers a full electric range of 265 miles.

BMW’s electric vehicle lineup launched in July starting with the full electric i3, worth about $41,350, with a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery for a range of 80 to 100 miles. The i8 is obviously expected to be a little more pricey at $135,925 and is expected in the fall this year. This new theme from BMW is demonstrating a focus on green, premium vehicles with modern, eco-friendly design.

Watch:F1 transporter jumps speeding Lotus F1 car in epic world-recocr stunt.

June 24th, 2014 by

A giant semi-truck sets a new Guinness world record after catapulting over a speeding Lotus F1 car. The jump was made as an advert for EMC technology, who are technology partners for Lotus F1 team. Check it out in the video below:

In fact the drivers, Mike Ryan and Martin Ivanov, are experience stunt drivers in various Bond, Bourne, and Fast and Furious films, so perhaps the cinematic quality of the leap shouldn’t be so surprising.
The Lotus team are now in possession of an impressive new world record as the F1 transporter managed to clear the longest ever truck jump at 83 feet and seven inches. Stuntman Ryan hurtled the 16-tonne transporter truck towards the ramp at 70 mph, whilst brave Ivanov steered the F1 car underneath the jump of the beast.
Fortunately, everything went according to plans and pre-run computer simulations and the world record was set without any injuries.

The Russian Batmobile Monster-Car.

             The Russian Batmobile Monster-Car.

June 22th, 2014 by

Would you just look at that beast! Not much is known of this monster apart from the fact it spawned from some dudes backyard in Russia. Whilst it may look like a VW Beetle on steroids from a post-apocalyptic world, it actually spawned from a Nissan Maxima.

A group of friends got together using the Maxima for the cockpit and as a source for other parts. The design was conjured using 3-D modelling software before being brought from Gotham to the real world. One thing’s for sure, if I saw that in my rear-view mirror I’d be sure as hell to move aside! Expect some more funny Russian dash cam videos to be hitting the web soon.

Top 10 New and CPO Cars for Golfers

Top 10 New and CPO Cars for Golfers

Date: June 18, 2015
Author: Doug DeMuro

As the Masters kicks off in Augusta, Georgia, millions of golfers are about to be inspired by the sport's greatest show. Even if you're not into golf, you have to be inspired by Rory McIlroy's potential for a career grand slam. Mcllroy is one Green Jacket away from doing just that. If you are a golfer, you know that when you watch a riveting tournament, it makes you want to go out and play a round yourself. But what will you drive to the course? If you've been pulling up in the same old jalopy for years, it might be time to upgrade. The market's full of outstanding golf-car candidates these days, whether new or certified pre-owned (CPO). Here are the top 10 options for 2015, just in time for Augusta's annual glory.

 Buick LaCrosse
The LaCrosse may carry a slight stigma due to its boring reputation, but don't let that stop you, because this big cruiser has something for everyone. Buick painstakingly designed the cabin for maximum quietness, and the result is a nearly silent experience at speed. The suspension soaks up bumps like the best Buicks of yore, yet it also inspires confidence with its athletic damping and quick transitions. Plus, the LaCrosse has one of the sleekest dashboards of any sedan, and it's packed with the latest technology. The best golf swings are buttery-smooth, and that's how the LaCrosse approaches the game.

Chevrolet Corvette
The C7 Corvette isn't the most obvious candidate for golf duty, but when you look closer, its credentials are undeniable. The standard coupe features a hatchback trunk with 15 cu ft., while the convertible chips in with 10 cu ft. -- plenty of room for a couple golf bags either way. The C7 also has a glorious 460-horsepower V8, track-ready handling, a surprisingly supple ride and the Corvette's first world-class interior in decades. This isn't just the best bargain among sports cars; it's also the most practical performance car on the planet.

Dodge Challenger
You've probably heard about the Challenger's chest-thumping V8 engines, and you know its brash styling will cause a stir at any country club. What you may not know is that the Challenger has a 16.2-cu ft. trunk, giving it more cargo space than almost every sedan on the market. You could toss four bags in there if you wanted, and thanks to the Challenger's full-size back seat, there's plenty of room for four adults in the cabin. Our favorite trim level is the reasonably priced R/T Scat Pack with its NASCAR-quality 485-hp HEMI V8. We're pretty sure Bubba Watson would approve.

Hyundai Genesis
Have you sampled the current Genesis? You have to, even if you're thinking about premier luxury brands. The base V6-powered model starts at an astonishingly affordable $38,950, and you can get a fully loaded one with all the high-end fixings for about $50,000, plus all-wheel drive if you like. Or you can select the seriously fast Genesis V8 with its 420 ultrarefined horses. Every Genesis has the suave character of a car that costs twice as much, and there's a sense of superior quality, too. It even looks rich when it's parked. Hyundai cranked this one about 330 yards right down the middle.

Lexus RX
The RX is a perennially popular choice at the course, and all those golfers can't be wrong. Whether you choose the regular RX 350 or the hybrid-powered RX 450h, you get the same ultrasmooth ride, and every RX comes with Lexus' enviable reputation for reliability. There's ample room in the hatchback trunk, of course, and the hybrid offers essentially the same space back there due to clever battery packaging. Excitement isn't job No. 1 for Lexus' best-selling crossover, but just look at Jim Furyk: Consistency will take you a long way in this sport

Volkswagen Golf
We couldn't resist, and not just because of the name. For a compact hatchback, the Golf is incredibly capacious, offering 22.8 cu ft. behind the rear seatbacks and a whopping 52.7 cubes with those seatbacks flipped forward. You actually don't even need to fold them down to fit a couple golf bags in the trunk, and four adults can somehow fit comfortably in the Golf's tidy cabin. Once you're under way, the Golf provides luxury-car dynamics at an economy-car price point. Budget permitting, the zesty GTI with its 210-hp turbo four is a stunning combination of practicality and sport.

Certified Pre-Owned BMW 5 Series
BMW's midsize sedan has the sort of classy, restrained looks that'll never go out of style, and that's always a plus when you're pulling up to the course. But it's also on this list because it's essentially a 7 Series in a 5 Series package. If you're on a golfing road trip, you want a solid, road-hugging ride, and the 5 Series feels like a full-on executive sedan in the fast lane. Pro tip: Check out the 550i with its astoundingly powerful twin-turbocharged V8; you can find a nice certified pre-owned example for the same price as a new base-model 5 Series.

Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen Touareg
The Touareg has long been one of the most versatile and affordable luxury crossovers, and it's arguably even more appealing in CPO form. Like most German vehicles, this SUV depreciates rather aggressively for the first couple years, but it hasn't changed significantly in at least that long, so you can save a bundle on a certified pre-owned specimen without missing out on the latest features. We prefer the TDI model's turbodiesel V6 for its remarkable fuel economy (good for 28 miles per gallon on the highway) and its massive low-end torque, which can move out four golfers and their equipment with ease.

Certified Pre-Owned Cadillac CTS
What would a golf-themed list be without a Cadillac? Don't expect a traditional land yacht, though; the current third-generation CTS (2014-present) is one of the most engaging luxury sedans we've tested, with razor-sharp handling and excellent body control. But it also offers a smooth ride and a golfer-friendly trunk, along with perhaps Cadillac's most luxurious interior ever. Furthermore, we think the CTS is the best-looking Cadillac in years, wearing the company's edgy design language with uncommon grace. Cadillac's certified pre-owned program can get you into a nice CTS for less coin than you think.

Certified Pre-Owned Jeep Grand Cherokee
The current Grand Cherokee is one of the best SUVs in the world, bar none. The interior quality is finally there, the off-road ability has never been better and the available 8.4-inch uConnect touchscreen is one of the best infotainment interfaces in the business. A little-known fact is that the current JGC shares some of its bones with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, which helps explain its incredible solidity at speed. Look for a fully loaded one with Jeep's certified pre-owned warranty; it's almost like getting a new Grand Cherokee, and you'll pay less than you would for a stripped-down new one.

2016 Audi A6 and S6: First Drive Review

2016 Audi A6 and S6: First Drive Review

Audi never leaves its cars alone for too long. They keep nipping and tucking between major revisions with different changes and improvements, massaging and retouching. The company's midsize sedan, the 2016 Audi A6, and its sporty variant, the S6, have received a midcycle refresh of late, and it's not a full-blown makeover -- it's more of a spa visit. But the net effect keeps the A6 and S6 at the center of the discussion when talk turns to premium midsize sedans.

A Wide Range of Premium

The 2016 A6 is available in three trim levels (Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige) combined with three engine choices (a new 2.0-liter gasoline 4-cylinder, 3.0-liter gasolineV6 and 3.0-liter diesel V6) in six possible configurations. The base-model A6 Premium 2.0 TFSI starts at $46,200 (add $2,200 for Audi's famous quattro all-wheel-drive system) with a nice set of luxury features. The Premium Plus 3.0 TFSI will run you $57,400 with quattro all-wheel drive and the V6 (add $2,100 for diesel power), along with more standard luxury. Step up to the Prestige, and choose between the gas V6 ($61,600) or diesel V6 ($63,700). Just for fun, we checked all of the options and packages boxes and came up with an A6 Prestige 3.0 TDI priced at $83,550 -- almost double the price of a base A6. That's some range. Our as-tested A6 2.0T quattro Tiptronic priced out at $55,775.
The 2016 S6 starts where the A6 leaves off and amps it up. You like the turbocharged V6 in the A6 3.0? Well, the S6 comes with a turbocharged and supercharged V8. You like the available wood and aluminum inlays in the A6? Well, the S6 has available threaded carbon-fiber inlays. S6 prices start at $70,900 ($81,275 as tested) for Premium Plus and $75,300 for Prestige.

Interior Improvements

The new A6 sees some upgrades in material quality but retains the same layout it has had since 2011. That's a good thing. Audi impresses with a selection of inlays that cater to every taste, ranging from natural to man-made materials. Tech-savvy buyers will find a treasure trove of new electronic features in the newest version of the MMI, Audi's telematics interface, which makes its debut in the A6. Seamless integration of the Google Maps satellite view is smoother than ever, and Audi has also finally disposed of the proprietary Audi music interface in exchange for two standard USB charging and control ports. Bravo, Audi.
S6 benefits from all of the A6 improvements and then some. You'll find S6 badging on the flat-bottom steering wheel with shift paddles, stainless-steel door-sill inlays, and front and rear floor mats. The seats get Valcona leather (whatever that is) with contrast diamond stitching, and the front ones are heated 12-way power sport contoured buckets. The combination of small details adds up to a big difference in sportiness and feel.

Ordinary and Extraordinary

The A6 is a fine performer on the road with its new 2.0-liter TFSI engine -- but not more than fine. If we'd never driven the S6, though, we might sound more enthusiastic about the A6. Its merits are many. Dual-layer windows and excellent sound management deliver a whisper-quiet ride, and a supple suspension and steering system give the driver a smooth, controlled feel.
Then there's the S6. Numbers don't always tell the story, unless they're big numbers, but 450 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, in case you don't know, are big numbers. The S6 romps like a hooligan and provokes juvenile driving in a way that the 2.0-liter, 252-hp 4-cylinder A6 never will.
There's a price for fun, just like your mother told you. The fuel economy penalty on the S6 is significant. The Environmental Protection Agency rates the S6 at 18 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, good for 21 mpg in combined city and highway driving. Good luck with that, because you'll need maturity and restraint for a good output, which you obviously don't have if you bought a high-flying S6 in the first place. Sensible buyers, however, will appreciate the 24 mpg city/35 mpg hwy/28 mpg combined rating of the basefront-wheel-drive A6. The V6 diesel does even better (25 mpg city/38 mpg hwy/29 mpg combined), and the gasoline V6 doesn't do badly, either (20 mpg city/30 mpg hwy/24 mpg combined).

Moving on Up

A few years ago, the choice for the best midsized premium sport sedan was easy and obvious: the BMW 5 Series and M5. The answer's not so easy and obvious any longer, though. The BMW entries are still excellent and formidable, but everyone else has gotten better and the gaps are much smaller. Buyers would be wise to consider the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and AMG E63 S, the Infiniti Q70 (formerly dubbed the M) or the Cadillac CTSand CTS-V. No doubt: Any buyer who overlooks the Audi A6 and S6 in this class is doing themselves a disservice.
Finding the right premium midsized sedan should involve deciding what's most important to you and finding a vehicle that excels in that area of choice. The 2016 Audi A6 has become a leader in integrated technologies and interior design, and the S6 has become a leader in fun per gallon. Not everyone will agree on which car is best in this class, which is what makes the premium midsize sedan group one of the most vital and exciting ones to consider right now.
